Best of the Roger Ebert Film Festival (ART 013)

In this course, we will re-create as closely as possible the experience of being at Roger Ebert’s film festival.  Ebertfest just completed its 11th run in Roger’s hometown of Urbana, Illinois, where it is sponsored by the College of Media at the University of Illinois, Roger's alma mater. If you love independent films, especially those that haven’t enjoyed widespread distribution, and you admire Roger Ebert’s amazing contribution to the film appreciation of millions of people around the world, you will enjoy this class!  Together we’ll watch some gems from recent Ebertfests, and after each film we will engage in the kind of lively discussion that takes place at the festival. The instructor, an Ebertfest staffer, will share some behind-the-scenes glimpses from this year’s festival as well as suggestions on how those who are interested might participate in next year’s Ebertfest.

An Evening with Leonardo da Vinci
(ART 016)

Join us on a Friday evening and learn how to see through Leonardo da Vinci’s eyes. Part theatre, part lecture, Leonardo is brought back to life through acting, audience participation, slides, and stories. He instructs you in creativity principles that form the core of his genius. This is your opportunity to meet DaVinci and discover what made him tick. Did you know he was the Steven Spielberg of the Renaissance? How did the Black Plague contribute to his creativity? What made his painting revolutionary? Would you believe he was a spy? Why did he frequent morgues? What made him think like a modern scientist? Mystery surrounds Leonardo. The Italian Renaissance was a time of dangerous intrigue, and prudent men did not divulge all their secrets. Now over five hundred years later, he is free to tell some of his stories. Bring pencils and a notebook.
This class will fill up quickly – enroll today!
